| ACCO Brands, United Stationers Partner to Raise Funds for City of Hope |
Lincolnshire, Ill. (September 18, 2008) – ACCO Brands, in partnership with United Stationers, has raised nearly $235,000 so far this year in support of its long-time partner, City of Hope, a leading cancer research, treatment and education center based just northeast of Los Angeles in Duarte, Calif. “The lifesaving research that takes place at City of Hope would not be possible without the support of partners like ACCO Brands,” said Robert Figlin, M.D., acting director, City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center. “Thanks to their support and the persistence and determination of City of Hope’s researchers, we can better understand the intricacies of cancer that will ultimately lead to its cure.” ACCO Brands raised $200,000 by hosting the Sixth Annual City of Hope Golf Tournament at the Knollwood Club in Lake, Forest, Ill., in August. About 115 ACCO Brands employees and partners participated in the event – which also included an evening reception. The tournament benefited a fundraising campaign for City of Hope, headed by Dick Gochnauer, president and CEO of United Stationers. Gochnauer will be honored by City of Hope this year for his support at the Spirit of Life® gala on September 25, at Chicago’s Field Museum. In partnership with United Stationers, ACCO Brands raised additional funds for City of Hope through several programs including a special afternoon at Arlington Park; an eight-page City of Hope brochure and flyer; and a raffle for a Chicago Cubs/St. Louis Cardinals weekend in Chicago. ACCO Brands employees also supported the organization by donating money to participate in a company-wide jeans day. “ACCO Brands is proud to support City of Hope, which has made an important impact on so many lives,” said David Campbell, chairman and chief executive officer of ACCO Brands.
