| The Storm Is Surging And You're Still Searching... |
| LINCOLNSHIRE, IL - Last year, hundreds of thousands of Americans learned an important - albeit late - lesson in preparing for storm evacuations and restoring their lives afterward. Many people lost important documents and records in the hurricanes and floods because they didn't have them protected and saved in an easy-to-locate, portable storage system that can be quickly packed and transported to higher ground. The key to preparedness and protection: Don't wait to laminate and encapsulate before you have to evacuate. While reports vary, as many as 40 percent of small businesses do not reopen after a major disaster like a flood, tornado or earthquake because they were unprepared for a disaster. And homeowners are even more affected by the loss of personal and financial documents. "The time to get your financial documents, personal papers and keepsakes in order is not when the flood waters are rising," said Lisa Bradner, Director of Marketing for GBC, a unit of ACCO Brands (NYSE:ABD). "We want to help people get prepared in advance to protect what's most important to them. That's why we introduced the GBC Retrieve It™ pouches. These pouches work with any standard laminator. They fully protect your document, but you can cut them open and get the papers back when you need them again. " Whether a business owner or a homeowner, the need to protect key financial and personal documents such as tax returns, bank statements, mortgages or rental agreements, insurance policies, employment agreements, marriage certificates, birth certificates, wills and passports is critical. While traditional wisdom recommends storing these kinds of documents in a safe deposit box, this past year's storms and floods proved even that unreliable. Now for the first time, homeowners and business owners can take a more proactive approach to protecting their documents by laminating them with GBC Retrieve It pouches. Fully water resistant, these pouches keep important documents safe. Unlike standard laminating pouches though, these pouches can be cut open to easily retrieve what's inside. The American Red Cross recommends that homeowners protect and secure the following documents from storms and floodwaters:
For business owners, particularly small businesses operators, effectively securing documents and backup of electronic records can speed the return to operations. Items to protect include:
